Ioannis GLEKAS

Resume: Dr. Ioannis P. Glekas

Born in Athens-Greece on 1st  January 1961, he studied at National Technical University of Athens where he graduated with the Mechanical Engineer Degree and Ph.D Degree in Computational Fluid Dynamics. He has been involved in the fields of Energy and Environmental Management and Planning for more than fortyyears. He has worked as a Research Engineer at the Laboratory of  Aerodynamics of the National Technical University of Athens for 8 years, participating in EU programmes in the fields of Environment and Renewable Energy Sources. He has worked as a Project Engineer with the Centre of Renewable Energy Sources at the Department of Rational Use of Energy, and as a Technical Manager with Lamda Technical Ltd., an Environment and Energy Research Company. In 1993 he founded the Environmental Management Consultants Ltd. in Cyprus where he worked for 9 years  in the fields of Environmental and Energy Management.   Since 2004 he is Director at Aeoliki Ltd providing consultancy services in the fields of Environmental Management (Environmental Impact Assessments, Environmental Risk Assessments, Environmental Management Systems), Energy Management (Rational Use of Energy, Renewable Energy Sources), Natural Resources Management. Dr. Glekas is an experienced researcher and trainer with extensive experience in Environmental Engineering, Impact Appraisals and Air and Water Pollution Abatement Strategies, Renewable Energy Applications and Energy Management. He has participated in more than fifty (50) programmes with the European Union (EU) in the fields of Environment and Energy Management. He has published more than 40 papers in International Journals and Conferences. Dr. Ioannis P. Glekas  is fluent in both Greek and English.

He has over 40 years’ experience in the field of environmental management including: development of programs for the integrated management of municipal, industrial and hazardous solid waste and wastewater; design, application and optimization of lab-scale and pilot-scale systems, including state-of-the-art technologies for the treatment of industrial wastewater and municipal, industrial and hazardous solid waste; development and application of systems for prevention and control of environmental pollution; environmental impact assessment; Development of best management schemes for the integrated management of special types of solid waste (batteries, plastics, used oils, used tires, end-of-life vehicles demolition waste etc.) at local and national level.

 As an Environmental Consultant he has more than 25 years of experience in the field of Oil and Gas environmental management, working for all the companies involved in the hydrocarbon exploration activities in Cyprus.

 He has more than 30 years’ experience in the field of hazardous waste management: development of appropriate schemes for the integrated management of hazardous waste at local and national level, development and application of decision support tools for the selection of the appropriate site for the installation of hazardous waste and wastewater treatment plants, development and application of decision support systems for the estimation and the time prediction of the pollution in contaminated sites.

He has over 30 years’ experience in the field of waste water management including: development of programs for the integrated management of municipal, industrial and hazardous waste and waste water and development and application of systems for prevention and control of environmental pollution;

 He has more than 40 years of experience in the development of Energy Projects in Greece, Cyprus, and Europe with more than 600 projects on project development – implementation – construction management, project financing, project due-diligence, and national energy strategies and planning.

 As an Environmental and Health and Safety Engineer, he participated during the last 30 years, as Lead Consultant/project Manager in the development, implementation, certification, performance assessment and review of more than sixty (60) Quality Management (ISO 9001), Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001 & EMAS) and Health & Safety Management Systems (ISO 45001).    

 He has an extensive experience in the fields of Environmental Acoustics, Noise Mapping Programming, Aircraft Noise, Construction Noise assessment, Road Traffic Noise, Under-water Noise. He has also excellent knowledge and skills in building storage databases in relation to the noise mapping software.
